From my childhood: Televangelists

I don't know if televangelists are on TV late night anymore, but when I was a kid they were. I found these programs to be high entertainment, but none moreso than Robert Tilton. He had an interesting cosmology where you would "decree a thing" to your "Jehovah Jireh" and make a "vow of faith" by giving Mr. Tilton money. He would repeat these catch phrases over and over again. It was weird.

So is cocaine to blame?

Good times!!

From my childhood 7: Art

When I was a child I watched the most excellent show Commander Mark and the Secret City. Youtube now has my weird childhood memories available. Let's learn how to draw with Commander Mark:

Check out the secret city mural

I always liked his pseudo flight suit with pens and markers everywhere.

There is an ice cream shop in town with a secret city mural that is an entire wall. It has space aliens and weird stuff. I should take some pictures of that. Speaking of ice cream...

From my childhood 6: Yacht Rock

Now, I thought I was with the times on internet humor. But apparently I missed the boat with the yacht rock skits. In case you missed it too, here is a video from the yacht rock documentary:

Here's the deal: my parents listened to AM Gold as a child, so I know the tune to every one of these yacht rock songs. However I could not tell you the name of the band or artist, or even the name of the song. The Doobie Brothers are smooth rock? I thought they would be acid rock. Steely Dan is smooth rock too? I would have pegged them for hard rocking classics from the South, opening up for Lynard Skynard. Hah.

So there are my smooth rock yacht rock creds. It was simply from my childhood.

Post Script: I wish I would have known about this several months ago. I was searching for a theme for my summer of unemployment. This would have been perfect for July - September. Maybe next year?

Adventures in Scotch

I have it on good authority that the best bottle of Scotch under 15 dollars is McMasters. Its tagline is "the taste will never compete with both the memories it leaves and steals". Thinking back to excessive McMasters and vomiting (not me personally) makes me want to drink whiskey from a 15 dollar bottle of hooch and raise hell. Why is no one in this town cool enough for this simple mission?
