Threading the needle

My apologies in advance; this post is less humorous than I intended.  These last few days and next few days I will attempt to juggle some very difficult personal items.  The soundtrack to this spring was supposed to be my Nippon Girls:

Oh my lovelies!  Sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men...shit the bed

So I don't mean to reblog this but the best music in the world right now is Pallbearer:

Big thanks to the collective wisdom of the internet for this!

And he knew there's no hope for redemption

Only the dead are smiling

Keep your chin up!

Spring jewels

In between sneezes, gazing from a sudafed haze, the jewels of springtime blossom. The green buds are open and life begins anew. In this town, tulips seem to be the flower of choice. So let it be tulips of spring.

There is much work to do.  The winter slumber is over.  Rise up, awaken, and begin.

Make haste, for time is short. In five months it will be over and time for the harvest. No time to dwell on that.

Everything is opening.  Do you feel alive?

Gearing up with the king

The snow is melting away, the days are getting warmer, and the sun is more intense.  Spring isn't here yet, but winter is in its dying throes.  I've been old school this weekend and listening to the great one himself, mister Elvis Presley.

Sure, you don't like Elvis.  That's lame old person music, and Elvis was a phony that made watered down white bread versions of great black music and sold it to white audiences with a wink and an awe shucks smile.  Well that might be true but fuck it - these are great songs anyways.  That old Sun Records stuff has the same sort of magic as the old Johnny Cash material from Sun Records.

An atmosphere that can't be recreated. Like a window into a past world that can only haunt you.

Boom chicka boom.

So there it is.  It is old and raw.  Not exactly black metal or anything, but it doesn't sound like the stuff sweaty teenage girls are getting wet to these days.  Also, if you ever wondered why all old punks end up Rockabilly at some point I can sum it up with one video.

From the '68 comeback special

Dyed black hair, black leather jacket, black leather wristband, black leather pants...and grandpa guitar.  Back before there were any punks and at the same time that all the kids were dressing like mod douchebags right before everyone went hippie.  If you were a punk and had to be like anyone from 1968 I think Elvis is your only choice.

And then it rained

It rained and the buds burst open and the trees were covered in a green haze. The peepers are mating and the birds are calling and life seems to convect through the air.

I'm practicing with my gear and studying up on insects, for my newest project is to shoot bugs. The fireflies will emerge soon, and I will be ready. But first, I will attempt to recreate the amazing pictures you'll find here.

The season of renewal

Spring arrived, and I missed all the lovely fog as the snow sublimated. Four days of fog and I was sick. Since then it has been nothing but sunshine. Everything is poised and waiting. Waiting for the rains to come.

first flower of spring

The first flowers of spring, emerging from the detritus of last year.

It has been dry. Once the rains come the buds will burst and the trees will be enveloped in a green mist. For now, we wait, and hope it comes soon.

The Wait

I'm in limbo. I'm waiting. My roommate moves out in about 3 weeks. It can't come soon enough. I'm waiting for Apple to release the new iPhone so I can finally become a god among men, with the sum of all human knowledge at my fingertips. That is probably about 2 months away. I'm always waiting on the job front. Things are really slow at the office, and I've taken to reading wikipedia online. I'll probably be let go soon. In the mean time, I have a potential job lead. It will probably be a longer commute, sadly. I was getting used to the easy drive.

Stamen

Life is blooming all around.

Clouds

The skies are blue and clear. I've finally gotten the hang of nailing that clear blue sky look too.

Fern

Like this fern, I am stretching out. I am unfurled.

I hope you are enjoying spring as much as I am. Sorry I didn't take any pictures of my brown bag and Boonesfarm from the other day. I'll probably have a rum summer, so we'll see how that goes.
