Road trip

I have been itching to get to California since the great Michigan exodus began sometime in 2003. Well now I've found the perfect excuse to visit. Not to see friends out there. Not to see the Rose Bowl. No, I should go to see Danzig's House.

All overgrown...and with a big stack of bricks in the front yard. Though I've read that, sadly, the bricks are gone.

Supplemental reading: an interesting cultural critique of Danzig.

The continuing saga of my summer of George

The continuing saga of the summer of George...

My "Summer of George" is progressing into madness quite nicely. I have added a bunch of Elvis movies to the Netflix queue.

Blue Hawaii
Live a little love a little
Viva Las Vegas
Jailhouse rock
Kid Galahad

Which are your favorite Elvis movies?

From my childhood 3: Africa

When I was a child, Lifesavers did this awesome commercial featuring Ladysmith Black Mambazo. I remembered this commercial so vividly that a few years ago I used the power of Google to track down who sang in that commercial and bought a Ladysmith Black Mambazo CD. It was a best of, but somehow omitted their best work, which I present to you below:

Those halcyon days of summer

Summer is in full swing here, but it hasn't really felt that way. It has been mild. Highs have been, for much of July, below 70 or low 70s. I was expecting it to be dog days of summer, but it is raining and high sixties.

Enough bitching about the weather, though. The butterflies are hatching at the botanical gardens.

Spotty face

Sails

The beer is still refreshing and delightful, the seldom times I drink beer that is

Pabst

Bells Oberon

More saliently, the wine is cool and refreshing.

Paisano

Yeah, I need to take a new and better picture of that.

I am getting out and biking around town. Really, it is the best way to see the town.

Boo Bradley is out again. Someone has upped his game quite a bit. I'm talking pussy magnet.

I'm reading a lot these days. Raymond Chandler and Hemingway. I'm listening to a lot of Type O Negative.

*sigh*

Good times indeed.

Prognostication

I have a prediction. I predict that, by this time next year, Apple will have released the Iphone 4G. It will be the first 4G Iphone, and it will be on the Verizon network. It will be a boon for Apple by expanding the potential clients from the limited AT&T base, and also a big increase in speed from the 3G network. So what is the price of Verizon doing right now?

A glimmer of hope

Today, I found some joyous news. Borislav Mitic has finished his new album. It might see the light of day soon. He has 2 new songs on his myspace. Check it out!

If this were the 80s

If this were the 80s, TV would be much better. Instead of endless iterations of Law and Order or CSI, we would be watching Jumanji the TV series. Wait, that happened? Jumanji the cartoon? Okay okay, then it would be Mall Cop the TV series. Don't believe me? Do you remember Ferris Bueller the TV series? Because I do. It went head to head with Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

Notice the Sisters of Mercy poster there? Sweet!

Suck on that, Ferris Bueller!

Revelation

I finally figured out what sort of summer this is. I've been listening to Type O Negative a lot. Especially October Rust. I started listening to the Cure a little bit. Siouxsie and the Banshees too. You know what that means?

Curbside Leaves

Its in the 50s, its cloudy, and apparently I'm having a goth summer. This is no good. I'd rather have a pirate summer and listen to lame-ass "fun loving" metal like swashbuckle or alestorm. Oh man...
